Use with Shortcuts, the command line and Claude.
Gain Curve 1.5 can work from a shortcut, a command or an assistant. The audio processing runs on your Mac, using the same engine as the app. Your licence or trial applies, with no extra Gain Curve charge.
Apple Shortcuts
On macOS 13 or later, install Gain Curve in Applications and open it once. In Shortcuts, look for Gain Curve in the actions list.
- Make Ready takes a file and a loudness target, then returns the finished file.
- Export For takes a file and a destination, then returns the export.
- Transcribe returns the words from a recording.
- Remove Fillers and Coughs returns a new file with those cuts made.
A recording open in the app stays untouched. Transcript tools use the app’s speech model, which may need downloading the first time.
If the actions do not appear
On macOS 11 or 12, or as a fallback, use a Run Shell Script action with Pass input: as arguments:
"/Applications/Gain Curve.app/Contents/MacOS/gaincurve" make-ready "$1" --target podcast --json --quiet
Follow it with Get Dictionary from Input, then Get Dictionary Value for output, the new file’s path.
The command line
Choose Gain Curve › Install Command Line Tool… in the app. It installs gaincurve in /usr/local/bin; macOS may ask for your password. Then, in Terminal:
# Make a piano take ready for streaming
gaincurve make-ready "take.wav" --mode instrument --target spotify --dest stream
# Find and export a short clip
gaincurve clips "Into My Heart.wav" --length 15 --export 1
# Write a transcript to a JSON file
gaincurve transcribe "interview.m4a" --json > interview.json
# Make an episode ready and cut ums and coughs
gaincurve make-ready "episode 12.wav" --target apple --remove fillers,coughs
The input file is never changed. Each run uses the app’s defaults and your options, without reading or changing your app preferences. Exports go beside the input as <name> (Gain Curve).<ext>, with a number if needed; clip exports use <file> clip N.mp4.
Use --out for a different output path. It never replaces the input; replacing another existing file also requires --overwrite. Run gaincurve help for the full command list, or gaincurve targets, presets and destinations for available names.
Without installing the command, replace gaincurve with "/Applications/Gain Curve.app/Contents/MacOS/gaincurve".
Connect Claude
Gain Curve includes an MCP connector for assistants. In Claude Desktop, open Settings › Developer › Edit Config. Add this entry to mcpServers, keeping any connectors already there, then restart Claude:
{
"mcpServers": {
"gain-curve": {
"command": "/Applications/Gain Curve.app/Contents/MacOS/gaincurve",
"args": ["mcp"]
}
}
}
For Claude Code, run:
claude mcp add gain-curve -- "/Applications/Gain Curve.app/Contents/MacOS/gaincurve" mcp
Then ask, for example: “How loud is ~/Music/take 3.wav, and is it ready for Spotify?” or “Make ~/Desktop/episode 12.wav ready for Apple Podcasts and take out the ums and coughs.”
The connector can measure, make ready, transcribe, export, remove fillers, coughs and pauses, and find clips. It uses files in your home folder, excluding hidden folders and Library except iCloud Drive, or on mounted volumes. Inputs stay untouched; an explicit output path must not already exist.
